The planetary Kp index is a global measure of how disturbed Earths magnetic field is due to activity from the Sun. It is calculated from magnetometer readings around the world and scaled from 0 to 9, where lower values mean quiet geomagnetic conditions and higher values indicate stronger disturbances. Elevated Kp values are associated with geomagnetic storms, which can enhance auroras and, at higher levels, disrupt satellites, radio communications, navigation systems, and power grids.
