Today I chose the Gudea Cylinders, RIME 3/1.01.07 / ETCSL 2.1.7, because the corpus still needed a stronger bridge between explicit Anuna language and practical civilization work: plans, measurement, foundations, and temple construction. The physical anchors are CDLI P232300, Cylinder A, and CDLI P232301, Cylinder B.
Why This Source
Recent entries have already covered human creation, sustenance, kingship, law, tools, and recordkeeping. The Gudea Cylinders move the investigation into architectural craft. Cylinder A describes a divinely interpreted temple plan, the drawing of the house on a tablet, brickwork, a ground plan, measured lines, Enki’s foundation pegs, and the Anuna standing in admiration. Cylinder B then shows the finished temple scene where the Anuna again stand in admiration and Gudea prays to them as protectors whose command cannot be resisted.
That makes this a useful source for Tony’s proof question, but only if the evidence split is kept clear. The plan and measurement material comes mainly from Cylinder A. The strongest Anuna command-and-prayer wording comes from Cylinder B. Together they support an organized divine authority behind temple design and civic sacred architecture; they do not, by themselves, prove ancient astronauts or recoverable technology.
Published Translation And Working Reading
ETCSL’s published translation has Nindub place the plan of the house on a lapis lazuli tablet. Later, Gudea raises the brick and, like Nisaba knowing the secrets of numbers, starts setting down the ground plan of the house. He stretches out lines in the most perfect way; Enki drives in the foundation pegs; Nanshe attends to the oracular messages; and the Anuna gods stand there in admiration.
Cylinder B carries the dedication-side control. The Anuna gods stand in admiration before the completed house; Gudea goes to them, identifies them as protectors of the countries, speaks of their irresistible command, and asks them to pray on his behalf. My cautious working reading is that the cylinders preserve a royal Sumerian memory of sacred architecture as a divine-authorized system of plans, measures, omens, foundations, and institutional power.
