A distinction between information, lived experience, and value—and the hypothesis that embodiment may transform possible states into states that matter to a subject.

Value-Experience Hypothesis
Three different questions
- Information: What happened?
- Experience: What was it like?
- Value: What did it matter to a subject?
The hypothesis argues that these should not be collapsed into one category. A system can contain information about pain without undergoing pain. A description of grief is not grief. A record that a choice occurred is not the first-person significance of making it.
The conditional hypothesis
If a persistent experiencer exists beyond embodiment, the distinctive contribution of embodiment may not be simple information acquisition. Embodiment may transform possibilities into lived, valenced states that matter to a subject.
Value is not pleasure
Hedonic value, adaptive value, personal meaning, relational value, developmental value and moral value are different. Grief can be painful precisely because something mattered. Courage presupposes fear. Achievement may require difficulty. None of this demonstrates that suffering is cosmologically necessary or morally justified.
What survives if Model C fails?
The distinction among information, experience and value remains philosophically useful even if no external experiencer exists. Neuroscience strongly supports embodied valuation, affect, interoception and reward learning. The external-soul interpretation is an additional hypothesis, not a prerequisite for recognizing first-person value as an important explanatory category.
Open boundary
Whether objective physical description ultimately exhausts first-person experience remains philosophically contested. The Architecture records that dispute rather than claiming it has been scientifically settled.
